Can't export iPod content back to iTunes?

"I put all my songs from iTunes onto my iPod. Then deleted all the songs from iTunes (to save disk space).
Now I want to edit some files in iMovie, but I can't export a song from my iPod back into my iTunes. I did a copy but there was no "paste" function.
